Lewiston Real Estate
The second largest city in the state of Maine, and also the larger of the “Twin Cities,” Lewiston has a longer history than Auburn as it was settled in 1770 by the falls of the Androscoggin River. Four houses built in 1795, the date Lewiston became a city, still stand to this day and have since been designated as “Historical Buildings” which can be viewed by visitors. The population boomed during the early 1800s when the advantages of the Androscoggin River waterfalls helped the Lewiston Water Power Company attract Boston investors. This in turn led to an explosion of industrial production, supplying America with a quarter of its textiles. |

Sitting across the river from Auburn, halfway between the coast and the mountains, Lewiston is so close and similar to Auburn that the two cities are contemporarily referred to as Lewiston-Auburn, or L-A. Modern attractions and establishments, some with early roots, include Bates College, the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, and Lewiston-Auburn College. With an exemplary amount of recreational options, employment opportunities, and natural wonders, Lewiston and the surrounding area of Androscoggin County are the only stops you need to achieve your state of Maine fix. |
